Mission & Vision

Mama2Mama is shifting the paradigm of the postpartum experience.

Why

Many mothers and birthing people in their fourth trimester, the three-month period immediately following birth, lack support and care during this intense time of physiological and emotional change. Research shows that risks for postpartum complications increase with low social support and unmet needs — leading to increased rates of postpartum depression and anxiety and illustrates the stark maternal mortality rate in the U.S., in which Black women and birthing people are 3 to 4 times more likely to die than white women, and which nearly two thirds of occur during the fourth trimester.

How

Through our community-building programs and partnerships in Los Angeles and San Diego Counties and at the California/Mexico border, we cultivate communities of support and provide essential items, which help mothers navigate the postpartum experience, even in the most uncertain and vulnerable circumstances. Every birthing person deserves crucial material goods like breast pumps, sanitary pads, and perineal bottles, in addition to diapers and formula for their children

We believe in the power of shared stories to reclaim the vulnerability of postpartum, particularly for mothers and birthing people from marginalized communities who are at higher risk for postpartum complications and face systemic barriers to accessing critical care. Through peer support groups and therapy, community-building, and making visible the challenges of postpartum, we create safe spaces where mothers are valued and empowered. We advocate for a society that values and invests in mothers, recognizing that their wellbeing is essential to the wellbeing of us all.

Every dollar you give directly supports mothers and families.
