"It took me 4 decades to make my home feel equipped and comfortable. It's so disorienting to not have anything from my past... This all costs money I wasn't planning to spend."

This testimonial, from one of the mothers who received our cash aid grant in the first round, capture the profound upheaval that comes after disaster. It's not just about losing possessions—it's about losing the carefully curated and meaningful space that made a house into a home for her family.

The Long Road Home

Two months after the devastating Eaton and Palisades Fires, the journey to recovery remains challenging for many families in our community. Families continue living in hotels or moving between relatives' homes, with no clear timeline for return. Insurance delays, cleanup concerns, and rebuilding logistics have created a maze of obstacles that prolongs their uncertainty.

For those with young children and infants, displacement is especially difficult. Parents are making long commutes to maintain children's school routines, traveling farther to reach workplaces or simply no longer have accessible childcare. Some have relocated entirely, starting over in a new community while trying to provide stability for their little ones during what should be a precious time of bonding and joy.

Relief in Action

Our Wildfire Relief Fund has made a meaningful difference for pregnant and postpartum families directly impacted by the fires:

  • $20,000 in cash aid distributed to 35 families
  • Grants ranging from $500 to $750 per household
  • 100% of donations going directly to affected families
  • 54% of families served are considered low-income or below

One mother who received our support shared:

"It was a blessing when I was starting to feel helpless and hopeless. For a little bit my kids could eat better and healthier, I had a full tank of gas to get back and forth, and I was able to buy diapers for my son and clothing for both my kids. I will forever be thankful to you all."

Beyond financial assistance, we've also mobilized a network of 80+ professional birthworkers providing much-needed services to more than 70 families affected by the fires. Mama2Mama also distributed essential supplies including breast pumps, diapers, car seats, postpartum care kits and more through multiple pop-up distribution centers.

Reaching More Families

While we're proud of our response, the need is ongoing. With your support, we can continue to make a direct impact with a second round of Wildfire Cash Aid disbursements planned for May 2025. Every dollar you donate goes directly to fire-affected families, providing them with the flexibility to address their most pressing needs.

Your contribution brings renewed possibility to families facing overwhelming challenges. In the midst of destruction, your generosity becomes a beacon of hope for a mother and her children.

Please give generously today and help a mother and her family have a better tomorrow.

With unwavering support,
The Mama2Mama team

P.S. Our heartfelt gratitude to Jess Koehler for donating her time and talent to capture these beautiful portraits of mothers in our program.
