Medicaid covers 41% of all US births

The foundation of maternal healthcare in America is under threat. Recent Medicaid cuts are devastating women's healthcare access, particularly for immigrant mothers and those in vulnerable communities. These cuts directly impact reproductive health services, prenatal care, and postpartum support that women rely on to heal and thrive after giving birth. For those in remote communities, the situation is even more dire as rural hospitals close due to budget cuts, requiring families to travel hours to reach the next available facility.

27% of likely people without legal status avoid applying for healthcare assistance due to immigration fears

More than a quarter of people without legal status forgo applying for food assistance, housing support, and healthcare programs they're eligible for—including prenatal care and children's health insurance—fearing that any interaction with government systems could lead to detention or deportation. This avoidance has cascading effects: preventable conditions worsen to critical levels, chronic diseases go unmanaged, and pregnant women miss vital prenatal appointments. For mothers without legal status, this means carrying the double burden of protecting their immigration status while compromising their family's health and wellbeing.

1.9 million women without legal status live in states with abortion restrictions

Recent reports show immigration enforcement in healthcare settings is creating impossible choices for immigrant families. Many women are traveling across state lines for abortion care, facing additional legal risks, transportation barriers, and costs. Those in detention face even greater barriers to accessing reproductive healthcare. The deadly combination of immigration enforcement in healthcare settings and abortion restrictions in certain states is creating scenarios where women are avoiding necessary care until it's too late. We refuse to accept this as inevitable.
