We've been where we need to be: with mothers who need support.

The recent ICE raids across southern California have torn through communities already bearing the weight of wildfires, economic uncertainty, and systemic inequity. These actions are not just sowing fear—they are feeding it, weaponizing it, embedding it deep into the bodies of immigrant communities who are the very people who have built the fabric of this city for generations.

What We Know: Fear Harms Maternal Health

  • Babies born to Latina mothers face a 24% greater risk of low birth weight in the weeks following major ICE raids in their communities
  • Immigrant families increasingly avoid healthcare during immigration raids, with providers reporting missed appointments and delayed care
  • Undocumented mothers are more likely to experience pregnancy complications including excessive bleeding and fetal distress, postpartum depression, and unplanned caesarean sections

The people being targeted are our friends, neighbors, our community members, and the women and families who make this city vibrant and alive.

Here is a wonderful list of resources for immigrant families compiled by LA Best Babies Network.

Our Commitment: Unwavering Support

A pregnant or postpartum mother does NOT stop needing care because of raids. A newborn does NOT stop needing well baby checkups. The fourth trimester—those critical first three months after birth—requires consistent support, regular medical attention, and positive community connection. When families are forced into hiding, when they're afraid to leave their homes for essential appointments, or to pick up formula or diapers, we are failing them at their most vulnerable moment.

This is not normal. We stand firm in our mission to transform the postpartum experience for all mothers and birthing people, regardless of immigration status, documentation, or the political climate. Maternal health is community health. When we allow fear to keep mothers from seeking care, we all suffer the consequences.

We're not just imagining a better future for families in LA; we're building it, one mother at a time, one community connection at a time, one act of courage at a time.

Because here's what we know for certain: Postpartum doesn't stop, and neither do we.
