MAMAS AT THE BORDER

Mama2Mama’s inaugural program focuses on supporting asylum-seeking and migrant mothers in early postpartum at Ciudad de Dios, a refugee shelter in Tijuana, Mexico. In partnership with international nonprofits and local women, our efforts include weekly check-ins, needs documentation, and provision of essential postpartum supplies like baby carriers, diapers, wipes, formula, bottles, and manual breast pumps.

Emphasizing community, we organize support groups and provide a safe space for learning about postpartum and newborn care, utilizing local resources. Our aim is to empower mothers through community building and the sharing of knowledge. Additionally, we are also compiling a resource list within Tijuana, encompassing local midwives, doulas, lactation consultants, mental health professionals, and relevant non-profits.

Beyond immediate assistance, our initiative aims to achieve long-term impact by fostering connections through regular meetings and relationship-building activities within the local community, establishing sustainable support networks for asylum-seeking and migrant mothers in border communities.

With your support, we will launch additional founding programs in 2024, focusing on meeting the distinctive needs of mothers and birthing individuals in the early postpartum period.
