For those participating in our Mamas at the Border program in Tijuana, the joy and hope of pregnancy and early motherhood are being overshadowed by instability and emotional turmoil. Many have fled violence and fear, traveling thousands of miles in search of safety and a brighter future for their children. They leave behind their homes, loved ones, and everything familiar—not out of choice, but necessity.
This past week, we worked to support an expectant mother in desperate need of care. Sadly, her diagnosis was devastating; she had a tumor growing alongside her baby—a situation requiring specialized care she would be unable to access in Tijuana. Her and baby’s life and health were at risk and the only hope was to cross the border into the United States, to receive life saving treatment.
She crossed with Humanitarian Parole on Saturday, January 18, just two days before the new Administration dismantled the CBPOne app and stopped all asylum appointments. Because of this support, she has been able to access lifesaving care, changing the outcome for her and her baby. While her story could have been drastically different, this policy change has stranded countless other mothers at the border in desperate circumstances, many in fragile stages of pregnancy or early postpartum.
The weight of uncertainty is heavy, and we know the road ahead is challenging. We remain committed to mothers at the border regardless of the challenges and are resolute in our focus to support them. No matter where they come from or where they are going, we will ensure every mother receives the dignity, care, and respect she deserves.
To our community of supporters: your generosity and advocacy make this work possible. Every donation, every shared story, every voice raised on behalf of these women brings us closer to a world where no mother has to choose between her health and her future. We ask for your continued support by making a generous gift today to sustain this work.
Let’s stand together for mothers like the one whose life was saved just a few days ago—and for the countless others still waiting for support.
With gratitude and determination,
The Mama2Mama Team
